Four .DSK files for Vmsx plus 1000 voices for CX5M11
Uploaded as :- MSXutils.zip, MSXpdgam.zip, CX5Mvocs.zip

1	Introduction

These notes describe 5 PD files (.DSK) for the emulator Vmsx
The disk will be of interest to:-
1 anyone interested in running old CP/M programs on MSX-DOS
2 any owner of a Yamaha CX5M11 music computer

This is not commercial software and is donated for personal use.

2	The disks

2.1	BGSPD.DSK/MSX

This disk is a straight copy of CP/M public domain
programs which have been run on a Spectrum +3 running
under ZPM3.

The disks originated on an Amstrad PCW8256 format and were
copied with 22DSK then to 720K for a load to the Vmsx emulator.

From am operating system view, the editor VDE ran under ZPM3
provided good service on a Spectrum +3 with a bubble-jet set
with Epson settings. I tended to use HDE, from Hisoft, under
MSX-DOS on the Yamaha CX5M11 - commercial software when obtained.
Due to the conversions undertaken you should be aware that
functionality may be reduced on an emulator.

ZPM3, as I understand it, was a re-write of CP/M which originated
from Perth, Western Australia, and used Z80 mnemonics rather
than 8080. It was released in 92 installed in 93 and I found
it useful up to 97. With VDE, and a compiler such as ZASM, and
a linkage editor (MLOAD.COM) a fully operational PD development
system on a Z80 machine.

VDE and ZASM were also used under under the PC Z80 emulator, ZSIM
(running CP/M 2.2) on a PS/2 (386) and a DX2/66 (486), with the
linkage editor mentioned above, an object code program could be
produced.

.LBR files which had an early compression facility can be extracted
with LT31.COM. You may wish to check Z8E on an MSX system (only checked on CP/M)
- it has extensive documentation.

2.2	CX5MVOCS.ZIP

This disk has about 1,000 voices for the Yamaha CX5M11.

Organ sounds were great with midi connections to a Yamaha PS6100, a
Casio CT670, a CX5M11 computer, mixer, amplifier and hi-fi speakers.

Don't expect much from the sequences stored under the midi recorder
and voice programs from 10 years ago (the programs YRM-301 and YRM-502
were OK but my playing skills could be improved)- the 6100 had an
automated accompaniment and you needed a short midi cable to get the
response required with the CX5M11.

Voice change settings on one piece of hardware changed settings
on other machines but all in all the software was a good effort
on a 4MHZ machine with substantial functionality at the time.

Unfortunately, the hardware did not have a long life, I had a letter
from Yamaha on 3 August 1990 which stated that MSX was dead in the UK.
The news group comp.sys.msx seems to prove the opposite (1998) in other
parts of the world.

2.3	PDGAMES1.DSK

These programs must have originated in Holland but I got them from the
UK User group originally and have been submitted before they disappear
in the mists of time.

2.4	PDUTILS.DSK

As above.

2.5	IVUTI001.DSK

Programs found useful and basic basic - some more tests required.
The pause in IVIDEO.BAS is caused by the load of the full alphabet
as 16 bit sprites - have a go at improving it.
